Issue 3.44 (Summer 2021) invites the reader to reposition themselves within both new and existing works of art and writing, prompting shifts in how we perceive and the worldview that flows from that perception. Featuring Találsamkin Siyám Chief Bill Williams, Tarah Hogue and Ashlee Conery on the intersections between the basketry of Sewinchelwet (Sophie Frank) (1872 – 1939) and the late landscape paintings of Emily Carr (1871 – 1945), selections from Whose Chinatown? curated by Karen Tam, artwork by Russna Kaur, as well as the artist participants of Gallery Gachet’s HART project. This issue features new work by Abigail Chabitnoy, Helen Cho, Jim Johnstone (winner of our 10th annual Robin Blaser poetry award), Khashayar Mohammadi, Isabella Wang, an excerpt from Tanya Lukin Linklater’s recently re-released poetry collection Slow Scrape and accompanying conversation between Linklater and Robin Simpson, as well as a conversation between Elee Kraljii Gardiner and Klara du Plessis. Finally, our “see to see—” review section features Joni Low on Ken Lum’s Everything is Relevant, and Ted Byrne on Lisa Robertson’s The Baudelaire Fractal.
